Boxes are containers... some are filled with hopes and dreams, others are empty shells waiting for their meaning. They can be filled with the mundane or the precious, and often hold the detritus of ones life. I've made some boxes as empty shells waiting for your touch and others have a head start... enjoy!
I've been a woodworker and artist for almost 50 years. A UCSB art degree in Ceramics and Photography, and 32 years of teaching teenagers has prepared me for an exploration in many different materials. This resulted in some interesting pieces of work, and even the occasional good idea.
I use a lot of different stuff. I have been a potter, a painter, a woodworker, I have taught textiles and weaving, and have been doing computer art (painter and Photo Shop) since the early versions of those software. I have taught traditional and digital photography as well. I use all of this in my work.
Don't all birds wear tutus? A lingerie chest with Wood Tit and Blue Footed Booby heads as drawer pulls? Of course! Most of my boxes have some humorous elements and puns included in their content. Good craftsmanship is a given, but I really like to add humor to lighten things up.
